Physician Associate Interdisciplinary Clinic (PAIN-C)

I had a Veteran's Affairs (VA) Compensation and Pension (C&P) exam with Dr. Skillern recently. I was apprehensive going into the virtual meeting, because the outcome can have a substantial impact one way or the other. Dr. Skillern immediately put me at ease with his 'bedside manner". He made the exam feel like two old friends (as friendly as a Soldier and a Marine can be, LOL) having a conversation. It did not feel like the inquisition I expected. After the exam, he took the time to give me insight into certain departments at the VA, based on his experience there, and he also gave me advice about dealing with issues that might be aggravating the medical issue I was currently being evaluated on. Dr. Skillern demonstrated a level of care and concern that some say is lacking from Veteran's Affairs and their representatives. Regardless of the outcome of the C&P Exam, I feel fortunate to have met someone who would go out of his way for me as he did.

Dr. Skillern is godsend – in a time when our world is so face pace, coupled with an ongoing pandemic; I really needed someone willing to listen to my concerns, subsequently, rely apt information. That individual is Dr. Skillern! A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, like myself, he truly understands the immense amount of stress that one endures while conducting combat operations. He performs detailed anatomy evaluation, in addition to, offering pertinent mitigation procedures; thus, following up to ensure progressions. Impending, I know that I can present any healthcare concerns to Dr. Skillern; feeling confident that he will address them appropriately.

It was a pleasure working with Dr. Maurice Skillern. He is very knowledgeable in his profession and he has a very professional attitude. He does not sugar coat anything, straight forward and to the point which I greatly appreciate. You can ask any question you like concerning your medical concerns about your claim and you will get the medical truth. He will not tell you what you want to hear but the truth based on medical facts and not an opinion. I was able to win my Sleep Apnea claim (any veteran knows how hard it is to win a OSA claim now) through a C&P exam that he did the evaluation for. His notes and assessment was on point, again just the medical facts. He is easy to talk with. Yes, I would recommend DR. Skillern for assistance with a C&P exam and a IMO (independent medical Opinion) because of his attitude and directness. He does listen to your point of view.
